Elisa De Munari aka Elli De Mon is an artist that has been on my Spotify-playlist for quite some time now. With her rezophonic guitar, drums, bells, voice and saturated sound she is a real one-woman band. Strongly influenced by the primordial blues tradition (Bessie Smith, Fred Mc Dowell, Son House) as well as by the very first garage punk appeal, Elli's sound is shaped into a lysergic journey through her soul.
I just found out this morning that she was touring Belgium and that she played her last show yesterday in a town nearby (thank you for that social media 😒) so I still did not get a chance to see her perform live. It's still big on my "wanna-see" list but for now we'll have to do with this live recording of Grinnin' In Your Face. Don't forget to check out her other songs or go see her perform when you can.
Lyrics :
Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Don't mind people grinnin' in your face You just bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face
You know your mother would talk about you Your own sisters and your brothers too They just don't care how you're tryin' to live They'll talk about you still
Yes, but bear, ooh, this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face
Oh, just bear, ooh this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face
You know they'll jump you up and down They'll carry you all 'round and 'round Just as soon as your back is turned They'll be tryin' to crush you down
Yes, but bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Don't mind people grinnin' in your face Don't mind people grinnin' in your face, oh, Lord
And just bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face
JERRY MOTOR - MARY Jerry Motor's latest single, "Mary," plunges listeners into a captivating musical experience that resonates with haunting melodies and pulsating rhythms. With a vocal delivery reminiscent of a crossover between Skunk Anansie and Kate Bush, the band delivers a performance that is both powerful and evocative. From the moment the drums kick in, the song establishes a relentless momentum that drives the narrative forward. The pounding and thriving percussion sets the pace, adding layers of intensity to the composition. Each beat feels purposeful, contributing to the overall dynamic of the track. The guitar work in "Mary" is nothing short of mesmerizing. While maintaining a clean tone, it weaves intricate melodies that linger in the listener's mind long after the song has ended. The haunting quality of the guitar adds depth to the music, creating an atmosphere that is both eerie and enchanting. However, it's the bass that truly sh...
ALPS. - WANT YOU NOW Life is full of surprises. Sometimes it gives you lemons, sometimes it gives you Alps.. At The Black Flamingo we really are blessed with the people that come visit us. No matter how big or small the audience, they give the artists all the attention they deserve. One day Jesse came over to watch a show here. I didn't knew who he was but someone pointed out to me that he also was a musician and a songwriter. After a little research (hurrah for socials) I came across two of his projects, Alps. and CYNN' (more about CYNN' later, I'm sure). For me Alps. is more than songs. When I close my eyes while listening to them I can almost feel the scenery passing by. Want You Now in particular makes me feel like being somewhere on a mountain pasture (Alps.?) and it's my perfect waking up song after a stressy week or a heavy night. I already had the privilege to see them perfom live and what a show that was ! Go check them out...
THE AX EFFECT - GET WASTED Dutch band The Ax Effect is back, and they're hitting harder than ever with their latest single, "Get Wasted," straight off their newest album, "Made For This." Hailing from Brabant, these guys are no strangers to blending genres, and "Get Wasted" is a prime example of their unique concoction of hard rock, metal, punk, and just a dash of blues, all fused together to create what they proudly dub as Lumberjack Rock. At the helm of this sonic onslaught is Mathijs Ansems, who not only commands the drums with thunderous precision but also takes on the role of lead vocalist, his gravelly voice serving as the perfect conduit for the band's gritty sound. Alongside him, Bart Kruijssen's guitar work cuts through the air like a buzzsaw, while his backing vocals add layers of intensity to the mix. And holding down the low end with authority is Harrie Van Erp on bass, his driving rhythms forming the backbone of The Ax Effect...
