KAREL GOTT - ROT UND SCHWARTZ 

A mind can play crazy tricks on you. I'll rephrase that : my mind can play crazy tricks on me. During the corona-lockdowns I frequently tuned in to Ready, Steady, Stay In ! This was an online event that was put together by Bill Kapelj aka Bill Carson where dj's from around Europe played 30 minutes sets with the more alternative music from the 60's. On one of the sets I heared Rot Und Schwartz by Karel Gott and for some reason I thought that this was the original version of Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones.

It has this old and traditional sound with a Slavic twist. This song clearly had to be older than the version of The Stones. Perhaps I linked it to Frank Sinatra's My Way that originally was a French song (Comme d'Habitude) by Claude Francois. But looking into it a bit closer soon learned that the credits for the song belonged to The Rolling Stones.

Karel Gott (known as The Golden Voice of Prague 1939-2019) recorded the German folk version of Paint It Black in 1969.  At that time he already had 3 top ten hits in Germany and soon several hits would follow. Recently his song was used in the Netflix movie Blood & Gold and I chose the Youtube video with footage of this movie.

ALPS. - WANT YOU NOW

 ALPS. - WANT YOU NOW Life is full of surprises.  Sometimes it gives you lemons, sometimes it gives you Alps..  At The Black Flamingo we really are blessed with the people that come visit us.  No matter how big or small the audience, they give the artists all the attention they deserve.  One day Jesse came over to watch a show here.  I didn't knew who he was but someone pointed out to me that he also was a musician and a songwriter.  After a little research (hurrah for socials) I came across two of his projects, Alps. and CYNN' (more about CYNN' later, I'm sure). For me Alps. is more than songs.  When I close my eyes while listening to them I can almost feel the scenery passing by.  Want You Now in particular makes me feel like being somewhere on a mountain pasture (Alps.?) and it's my perfect waking up song after a stressy week or a heavy night.
