Joey Henry is an artist who can play a tune or two, or a whole bunch. He'll tickle unique, reverb-loaded yet rhytmic sound scapes out of his banjo, his ukelele and his guitar that will simply give you goosebumps.

Joey Henry's Dirty Sunshine Club is so much more than only that. It's about photography (check out his puddlescapes, sunsets and street photography), pinball machine philosophy, skateboard existentialism, ripped pages from a Kansas diary and street corner storytelling as much as it is music.

Listening to Joey Henry's Dirty Sunshine Club gives me positive vibes. Listening to him play live is almost a revelation. Music can have a healing force and Joey Henry is one of the artists that proves this. The interaction with his audience is breathtaking and it doesn't only effect the bystanders but the artist as well. Group therapy, that's what Joey calls his shows.

There is no particular reason that I chose I Don't Care If You Are The Ocean. It's jus one (of many) songs by him that I like. And I like the video : just a man, his voice, his guitar and the ocean. On the 12th of August Joey is returning to The Black Flamingo and - if the Belgian weather allows it - he will play a garden show. And I'm really stoked about that !

OFF THE GRID FESTIVAL Normally I write about a song that caught my attention or that has a special meaning to me but this article is a tribute to this small festival that I had the honor in attending in Croatia's capital Zagreb at the Vintage Industrial Bar This story actually starts in June 2022. While I was watching the amazing band L.H.D.  at the Trash'n'Burn festival in Croatia, I met some great people who were also in a band called Melewai . We started talking, drank some beers and after the festival we stayed in touch. From time to time they released a new song on Bandcamp and I just loved their songs. I promised them that whenever they would play their first live gig I would do my best to be there. And then the news came that Melewai was going to play at the Off The Grid festival, organised by L.H.D. and together with Sumski  and Psycho Mutants . ALPS. - WANT YOU NOW

 ALPS. - WANT YOU NOW Life is full of surprises.  Sometimes it gives you lemons, sometimes it gives you Alps..  At The Black Flamingo we really are blessed with the people that come visit us.  No matter how big or small the audience, they give the artists all the attention they deserve.  One day Jesse came over to watch a show here.  I didn't knew who he was but someone pointed out to me that he also was a musician and a songwriter.  After a little research (hurrah for socials) I came across two of his projects, Alps. and CYNN' (more about CYNN' later, I'm sure). For me Alps. is more than songs.  When I close my eyes while listening to them I can almost feel the scenery passing by.  Want You Now in particular makes me feel like being somewhere on a mountain pasture (Alps.?) and it's my perfect waking up song after a stressy week or a heavy night. I already had the privilege to see them perfom live and what a show that was ! Go check them out if you get the chance.
